Mill Valley Readies For Inaugural Juneteenth Freedom Festival
"Mill Valley is readying to launch its inaugural Juneteenth Celebration. Mill Valley's Juneteenth Freedom Festival will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Mill Valley Depot Plaza. The North Bay city will celebrate African American Independence Day with live music, poetry and activities for those of all ages. The event will feature performances from the bands Jazz Mafia, Deuce Eclipse, Daylight, Unlearn the World and DJ Saurus. It will also involve the social justice advocacy group Hip Hop for Change."

Marin near deal to buy 110-acre Tiburon tract
"The Trust for Public Land announced on Thursday that it has entered into an agreement with the Martha Co. to acquire the property on Tiburon’s Easton Point for $42.1 million. The agreement gives the trust until summer 2024 to complete the purchase, but the trust doesn’t doesn’t plan to hang on to the property for long. On Tuesday, county supervisors will discuss entering into an agreement to purchase the Martha property from the trust for $26.1 million."

Sausalito advances SB 9 housing rules
"Sausalito is moving forward with permanent rules to govern new housing development under state law for properties zoned single-family residential. The City Council unanimously voted to advance an ordinance that would allow the development of new units under Senate Bill 9. The housing law, which took effect Jan. 1, modifies residential zoning rules to allow up to four homes to be built on a property zoned for one house."

Marin County median home price breaks $2 million barrier
"The median price of a detached home in Marin County has passed the $2 million mark amid steep spring gains throughout the Bay Area. The figure for May was just over $2.025 million in Marin County, according to data released by the assessor’s office on Friday. The price marked a 19% increase over the previous year."

San Rafael approves 10-apartment project
"A project to merge two vacant lots and build 10 apartments in San Rafael’s Lincoln Hill neighborhood has been approved. The Planning Commission voted 4-0 Tuesday in favor of the three-building project at 55 Brookdale Ave., the last quarter-acre swath of undeveloped land between Lincoln Avenue and Highway 101. Commissioners Shingai Samudzi, Jon Previtali and Aldo Mercado were absent from the meeting. The project is the first application to be approved under the city’s one-year pilot program to streamline housing developments with 10 residences or fewer. The program — which eliminates a separate Design Review Board meeting and instead requires two members of that board join the Planning Commission hearing — was designed to remove barriers to getting more homes built."

Fairfax delays decision on parklet program
"After a two-hour hearing to discuss parklets, Fairfax officials are taking a step back to rethink how to regulate them. The Town Council was poised to approve a program Wednesday that would have bolstered parklet safety and design standards, including prohibiting fixed roofs. The proposal was previously agreed upon because of concerns over visibility, access and aesthetics."

Marin Readies For Traffic Signal Upgrades
"Traffic signal upgrades will soon arrive in Marin. Nine Marin towns and cities and some unincorporated areas of the county will see upgrades at 59 intersections. The Marin County Department of Public Works will serve as the lead agency coordinating the implementation of the improvements with the municipalities."

Marin wildfire agency outlines $20M in projects
"The Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority has produced a plan for 2022-23 that proposes over $20 million for more than 100 fire fuel reduction and defensible space projects. The agency is expected to approve the proposals after July 1 when funding for projects in the new fiscal year are available, said Mark Brown, the executive officer."

Mortgage Rates Surge on Inflation Expectations
"Mortgage rates surged as the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage moved up more than half a percentage point, marking the largest one-week increase in our survey since 1987. These higher rates are the result of a shift in expectations about inflation and the course of monetary policy. Higher mortgage rates will lead to moderation from the blistering pace of housing activity that we have experienced coming out of the pandemic, ultimately resulting in a more balanced housing market."
